Turn the Polish you already speak into a stronger Polish Leaving Cert result.

Polish Leaving Cert preparation for bilingual students in Ireland

You can speak Polish. You understand your family. You already have a valuable bilingual advantage.

But speaking Polish naturally is not the same as knowing how to use it accurately and strategically in the examination.

Your home Polish gives you a strong foundation. The next step is learning how to turn it into accurate, confident and exam-ready Polish.

I will help you understand what is holding your result back, build the missing exam skills and prepare with a clear plan instead of guessing what to study next.

Does this sound like you?

You speak Polish, so why does the exam still feel difficult?

At home, your Polish may feel completely natural.

You can understand conversations, speak to your family and communicate without thinking about every grammatical rule.

Then you open an exam paper, begin a formal written answer or try to explain a complex idea, and suddenly the language feels different.

  • Understand the examination Learn how the oral, aural and written examinations work and what each type of task requires from you.
  • Recognise what a complete answer needs Learn how to respond precisely, include sufficient detail and avoid losing marks through incomplete answers.
  • Improve your written Polish Develop grammar, spelling, word order, vocabulary and the structure of longer written work.
  • Become a more independent candidate Learn how to plan, check and improve your work without relying on memorised answers.
The real problem

Home Polish and exam Polish are not the same skill.

Home Polish gives you natural understanding, everyday vocabulary, cultural knowledge and confidence in conversation.

The examination requires an additional layer of language and strategy.

Home Polish gives you

  • Natural conversation
  • Everyday vocabulary
  • Intuitive understanding
  • Cultural knowledge
  • Confidence with familiar people and topics

Exam Polish requires

  • Accurate written structures
  • Formal and precise expression
  • Effective reading and listening strategies
  • The ability to develop and justify ideas
  • Awareness of task requirements
  • Preparation for the oral examination
  • Confident work under time pressure

Your bilingual Polish is not the problem.

The problem is the gap between the Polish you developed naturally and the Polish you are expected to produce deliberately in an examination.

That gap can be identified, taught and systematically reduced.

Sylwia Karolina Janiec

Polish Leaving Cert Specialist
Sylwia Karolina Janiec, qualified Polish language teacher and doctoral researcher
Qualified Polish Language Teacher

Teaching created specifically for bilingual and heritage-language students

I am Sylwia Karolina Janiec, a qualified Polish language teacher and PhD researcher.

For more than 15 years, I have worked with bilingual children and teenagers in Ireland.

During that time, I repeatedly saw the same problem: intelligent students could communicate naturally in Polish but had never been taught how to analyse their own language, write formally or prepare strategically for the Polish Leaving Cert.

They were often expected either to know everything because they spoke Polish at home or to study through materials created for complete language beginners.

Neither approach reflected their real needs.

That is why I developed a specialist method that begins with the Polish students already have and builds the missing language, examination and independent-learning skills around it.

Specialist experience More than 15 years supporting bilingual learners in Ireland.
Responsive live teaching Academy and Academy Lite students can ask questions, practise in real time and receive explanations connected to their own work.
Authentic Polish in context Students work with real language, relevant topics and cultural material while learning how to apply Polish effectively in the examination.
Research-informed methodology Blitz & Go and the wider teaching approach were developed using the methodology and findings emerging from Sylwia’s ongoing PhD research.

My role is not to give you answers to memorise. It is to help you understand your own Polish well enough to build stronger answers independently.

The Home Polish to Exam Polish Method

A clear process from natural bilingual Polish to confident exam performance

Polish Leaving Cert assesses your ability to understand and use Polish through speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Conversational fluency gives you a valuable starting point, but preparation also requires formal language, accurate written structures, exam awareness and regular practice.

My method connects those two worlds instead of treating you as either a native speaker who should already know everything or a beginner who needs to start again.

Diagnose the gap

We identify what you already do confidently and the specific language or examination skills that are limiting your progress.

Understand the task

You learn how to interpret instructions, recognise what each question requires and distinguish a partial answer from a complete one.

Strengthen the language

You develop grammar, spelling, word order, vocabulary, natural expression and the structure of longer answers.

Apply precise feedback

You learn what is working, what is weakening the answer and how to apply each correction to your next task.

Perform independently

You build the ability to plan, speak, write, check and improve without depending on memorised answers or constant correction.

The problem is rarely that a bilingual student knows no Polish. The problem is that nobody has shown them how to convert natural Polish into deliberate exam performance.

Why more materials may not be enough

More exam papers will not help if you keep repeating the same mistakes.

Past papers are important. But completing one paper after another without precise feedback can make the same patterns stronger.

You may continue using English sentence structure, giving answers that are too general or repeating grammar errors you do not recognise.

You can spend hours studying without knowing whether the work is moving your result forward.

What changes progress is not simply receiving more information.

It is understanding what is holding you back and learning what to do differently the next time.

Find the support that fits you

Which Polish Leaving Cert preparation route fits the way you work?

You may already speak Polish naturally, but different students need different levels of structure, live teaching and feedback.

Answer six short questions to see which route may suit your timetable and working style.

The result is a starting point, not an automatic enrolment decision.

Different levels of support for different types of students

The right programme is not automatically the programme with the most features.

It is the programme that gives you enough guidance, feedback and accountability to keep progressing.

Weekly live guidance

Academy Lite

A focused Monday programme for students who want regular specialist teaching but can complete more of the preparation independently.

  • Monday live class focused on examination skills, vocabulary, reading, listening and written expression
  • Guided independent work between Monday sessions
  • Group teaching with other bilingual students
  • Defined feedback according to the Academy Lite offer
  • Access to the platform materials included in Academy Lite
  • Oral, aural and written-examination guidance

Best for: motivated students who want weekly direction and live teaching but do not require the Saturday grammar programme or the full Academy level of personal support.

Self-Paced

Blitz & Go

A research-informed online preparation pathway for independent students who need flexibility but do not want to study without a clear system.

  • Structured learning pathway on the platform
  • Study around school and other subjects
  • Reading, listening, speaking, writing, grammar and exam strategy
  • Written feedback according to the current Blitz & Go allowance
  • Developed using the methodology and findings emerging from Sylwia’s ongoing PhD research

Best for: independent students who prefer flexibility, can organise their own study time and want a complete preparation system on the platform.

Why the method works

Progress comes from a process you can understand and repeat.

Strong preparation combines specialist teaching, regular practice, precise feedback and a student who is willing to apply it.

  • Clear direction

You understand what you are learning, why it matters and what you need to do next.

  • Regular development

Skills are built over time instead of being left until the final weeks before the examination.

  • Precise feedback

You learn which parts of your answer are effective, which parts are incomplete and how to improve the next attempt.

  • Research and teaching experience

The method combines ongoing PhD research with more than 15 years of practical teaching experience.

What changes when you have a system

Imagine walking into the examination knowing exactly how to approach it.

  • You recognise the type of task in front of you.
  • You know how much detail your answer needs.
  • You can plan a longer written response without panicking.
  • You understand the language patterns that repeatedly weaken your writing.
  • You stop translating every sentence directly from English.
  • You can discuss your ideas and Language Portfolio material naturally.

Most importantly, you are no longer depending on luck or guessing what may appear.

Confidence is not created by hoping. It comes from knowing that you have prepared properly.

FAQ

Questions students ask before booking a consultation

Clear answers about your level, programme options, waiting-list process and what happens during the free consultation.

No. You should be able to understand everyday Polish and take part in a basic conversation.

Your grammar, spelling and formal writing do not need to be perfect. Improving these areas is part of the preparation process.

The free consultation will help establish whether your current level is suitable.

All the material from every lesson is published on the platform, so missing a class does not leave a gap in what you have covered.

Academy and Academy Lite students can work through everything from the session in their own time and bring any questions to the next one.

Blitz & Go is platform-based and does not depend on attendance at a weekly live class.

Yes.

Every programme runs on the learning platform, which is where the lesson material, tasks and resources are kept.

LC Polish Academy and Academy Lite add live online teaching. Classes are held over a video conferencing platform, and the joining details are sent to enrolled students.

Academy classes take place on Mondays and Saturdays. Academy Lite classes take place on Mondays only.

Blitz & Go is delivered through the learning platform and can be followed independently.

LC Polish Academy provides the highest level of live support, with Monday classes, Saturday grammar workshops and monthly individual guidance.

Academy Lite provides one live Monday class for students who can complete more of the work independently.

Blitz & Go is a self-paced preparation pathway delivered through the learning platform.

The free consultation will help identify which level of support is most appropriate.

Programme fees are discussed during the free consultation after Sylwia has identified which option is most suitable for the student.

The full cost, payment schedule, programme duration and terms are explained clearly before the student or parent is asked to make a commitment.

The choice is not final either. Sixth year rarely runs to plan, so a student who finds the workload too heavy or too light can move to a different programme after the agreement is signed. The change is arranged directly with Sylwia.

The first 2026/27 live cohort has already been formed.

Additional Academy or Academy Lite groups may open if there is sufficient demand and a suitable timetable can be created.

No responsible teacher can guarantee a particular Leaving Certificate result.

Your result depends on your starting point, consistency, work completed, use of feedback and performance in the examination.

The programmes provide specialist teaching, structured preparation and a clear method so that you can use your existing Polish more effectively.

I will not promise you an H1, and I would treat any teacher who does with caution. What I will commit to is the other half of it: if you do the work, use the feedback and keep turning up, the preparation will carry you as far as your effort can take you. That is the standard I hold the teaching to.

Put plainly: every tool is on my side of the table. The teaching, the materials, the corrections, the method and the plan are all handed to you. Picking them up and putting them to work is the one part nobody can do for you.

The reviews from students and parents further up this page are the honest picture of what that has meant for people who were once in your position.

She will then explain which preparation route may be most suitable.
